Authors Are Killing It In The Kindle Marketplace

Jan 23, 2012   //   by   //   Something Different, Viral  //  No Comments

A few notable Fiction authors are making a killing selling their manuscripts through the Amazon/Kindle marketplace, as independent publishers rather than working with a publishing house.

A few examples include Joe Konrath, Vincent Zandri and John Locke.

John Locke has written about his experience as an Amazon best-selling author, and you can get your own copy by following the link to the left.

Konrath earned $100,000 in just three weeks on Kindle sales.

Zandri sold 75,000 copies of his books in 5 weeks.

And Locke sold 1 Million ebooks in 5 months time, becoming one of only eight people to hold the coveted title of selling one million copies in the Kindle marketplace alone and the first to do so as a self-published author.

Get his book, so that you can learn from one of the best in this industry how to market books online.

Punkin Chunkin:: Chunk It Real Good – “Awesome Commercial”

Nov 9, 2011   //   by   //   Something Different  //  1 Comment

punkin chunkin dvd Okay, so folks who know me also know that I watch a whole lot of the Science Channel on TV.

Each year in November, they air Punkin Chunkin, which is a sporting event held every November in Bridgeville, Delaware.

The goal of “pumpkin chunking” is to build a machine that will launch a pumpkin further than the competition.

There are several categories of Punkin Chunkin machines, which includes: Air Cannon, Centrifugal, Trebuchet, Human Power, and Torsion.

The current pumpkin chunking world records are listed here.

If you have never seen the Punkin Chunkin competition on the Science Channel, be sure to tune into it on Thanksgiving Day. It is becoming a Thanksgiving Day tradition around my house. It is even more important than Thanksgiving Day Football games. :)

Marketing News: 100,000 people attend each year at $10 per person… Just in ticket sales, they are pulling $1 million per year… Chunk On!!!

The Lady In Blue Is Hotter
Than The Punkin Chunkin

The point of this post is not pumpkin chunking, but rather the new Punkin Chunkin commercial. It flat rocks!!

LOL “Chunk It, Chunk It Real Good!!” And best of all, it is all redneck-style…

The lady in blue doing the line dance is smoking hot!! I melt every time I see her!! LOL

Most of the guys in the commercial are punkin chunkers… I bet she’s one too, or at least she is with one of the teams… Just guessing…

People keep asking, “Who sings that song in the Punkin Chunkin Commercial?

For those who are interested, this Punkin Chunkin 2011 Commercial is based on the song, “Push It” by Salt-and-Peppa:

The Copywriting Game – An Actual Game Entry

Aug 10, 2011   //   by   //   Something Different, Too Hot for Warrior Forum  //  No Comments

Yes, there is an actual Copy Writing Game being offered by Pete Walker in the Warrior Forum – Copywriting sub-forum.

The game rules…

Sell the audience on obscure products – in 250 words or less.

I’ll post up an image every now and then and you come up with the engaging and unique sales copy to sell this to market in 250 words or less.

Be as engaging or witty or clever with words as you like…

The first picture posted in the thread was this one:

By the time I got into the game, the picture had changed twice and the current working picture was this one:

This sounded fun, so I made my first entry to the game…

I even opened my entry with these very important words:

Don’t Get Mad…. This Is A Copy Writing Game For FUN!!!

To no avail… Some people are just humorless bastards… My entry was deleted from the forum when someone reported it… LOL

Lucky for you, I am going to share it here:

Are You Feeling The Pain Yet?

Obama Has Only Been President for 3 Years…
And He Is Getting Ready To Ask For Your Vote AGAIN!!!

Ask yourself this…

Are you better off financially today than you were 3 years ago?

Our candidate is a turkey, and he was touted as Ben Franklin’s idea of “the bird that Americans should have chosen” as our national bird…

If you don’t have a job and your unemployment insurance about to run out, and you are sitting in your soon-to-be-repossessed home trying to figure out how you will keep your family warm this coming winter, our candidate has a plan that is better than Obama’s plan…

We don’t really need to show you “our plan” for you to know that OUR PLAN IS BETTER!!!

If you pick our guy, you can choose America’s two favorite birds (our turkey and your middle finger) to send your message to those that occupy Washington D.C. today…

You only need to see Obama’s plan, and you will know which turkey to vote for in 2012…

Here is Obama’s plan for keeping your family warm this winter…

Keep the Beans Nearby

OR

Say NO to Obama!!!

Vote For Our Turkey
in November of 2012!!

Aren’t you glad I saved this for you? LOL

Until Next Time,

What Happened in Raleigh, NC is Leaking Out

Jun 14, 2011   //   by   //   Something Different  //  No Comments

I could not make it to Raleigh, NC for the Warrior Event 2011, but a lot of my friends did go.

Because I am close friends with so many people who did make the journey, I have been getting the opportunity to see many of the pictures taken at the event.

It seems our friend Caliban Darklock had been telling everyone that he would not go to the Warrior Event, because he needed to launch his new product before going…

He must have had a change of heart. It looks like he decided to go to the event without telling anyone…

As I was looking through someone’s picture collection, I stumbled upon this image:

Caliban Darklock - Warrior Event 2001

I was a bit surprised, after Caliban had been so adamant saying that he would not make the trip…

p.s. I saw the picture of Caliban taking a dip in the pool with Tim Castleman, but I won’t post that here… In the picture, it certainly does look like Caliban Darklock and Tim Castleman, but it was dark… I will just leave that one to your imagination… LOL

There is more good news today…

The Warrior Event 2011 was such a huge success that Sam England and Brian McLeod have already set the wheels in motion for the Warrior Event 2012. Sign up for the mailing list, so that you can keep up with the future announcements of the event.

How Close Was The Tornado In Stillwater OK – May 24th, 2011?

May 25, 2011   //   by   //   Something Different  //  No Comments

The storm that produced the F5 tornado that went to the northwest side of Oklahoma City, through Piedmont, OK and Guthrie, OK eventually lifted from the ground just northwest of Guthrie on its way to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where I live.

Fortunately, it did lift up, but they sounded the tornado sirens in Stillwater.

I took my three boys to the storm cellar to ride out the storm. We stayed in the cellar a block from our house for about 45 minutes.

When we were in the cellar, we were getting reports from the radio of debris falling from the sky on the south side of Stillwater.

I had thought that the storm would pass on the west side of town, based on the tornado’s original track. But the original tornado had lifted about 20 miles away and dropped a new F1 tornado just south of town.

I was curious how close we had come, so I followed the news reports to find the tornado’s path across town.

Here is what I came up with:

Just one mile away…

Phew…. That was close…

How To Start in the Internet Marketing Business With No Money?

May 13, 2011   //   by   //   Offline, Something Different  //  No Comments

There are two types of currency in the online marketplace: money and time.

If you don’t have one, you must spend the other.

When you have no money, you must spend time.

When you have money, you have the option of spending money to buy other peoples’ time to gain more time and/or money for yourself.

People make this IM thing too hard.

You must figure out how to offer other people “value” that they are willing to pay for. And you must figure out how to move the money into your accounts, and how to deliver the real value to your customers.

The hardest part about the opportunity is figuring out what kind of “value” you are capable of giving to others. And then how much to charge for those things you are giving to others.

You have time to figure out the answers to these questions. And if you do figure out the answers, the Internet offers an unprecedented opportunity to any person willing to exchange value for money.

Down the road, as you gain more experience, you may just find that you don’t always have to exchange time to make more money, but you always have to offer “real value“.

Heineken Commercial: Sing it Out Loud

Apr 27, 2011   //   by   //   Something Different  //  No Comments

“Heineken Commercial: Sing it Out Loud” Lyrics

The first time I heard the “Heineken – The Entrance” commercial, the song seemed way too busy and eclectic for my taste. After I had heard the song about a half-dozen times, it clicked in my brain… And now I cannot get enough of it…

The song is actually titled “The Golden Age“, from the 2009 release of “Fruit“, and it is performed by “The Asteroids Galaxy Tour“.

The group formed in 2008 and released an EP titled, “Sonic Arts“.

See the Heineken Commercial here, then scroll down to see the whole song on video…

I wished I lived in the golden age
Giving it up on the broadway stage

Hang with the rats and smoke cigars
Just have a break with Frank and count the stars

Dressed to the nines, we’ve had too much
Shiny jewels, casino cash
Tapping feet, wanna take the lead
A trip back in time is all I need

Oh!
Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free

Whoo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo

I’m on my way, gonna make it big
Gonna make these songs for the chicks to dig
It’s really hot and a little bit sour
We’re getting your strength to the maximum power

Flying away from reality
Whatever-ever happened to gravity?
I see it clear, a shooting star
And I’m really gonna sing it like da-da-da

Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free

Yeah!

Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me

“The Golden Age” Lyrics
by “The Asteroids Galaxy Tour”

The song, “The Golden Age” was from the 2009 release of “Fruit“, from the Danish Alt-Rock duo “The Asteroids Galaxy Tour“. The band was formed in 2008.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is moving at the speed of light. This band with the interesting sound is led by Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg. They created quite a buzz when they came to New York City. They are being heralded as “one of the hottest new bands from across the pond.

There is just something about her voice that catches my ear and my interest…

Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free

Yeah-yeah!
Woah-oah!
Wow!

Ohhh silver screen on a rainy day
Sally Bowles in a cabaret
Shaking sticks, oh what a show
Fresh and jolly, from tip to toe

Rambling down the boulevard
With a fly, a bird, and a wooden heart
My mind is set, I walk the line
But I never really thought that it would feel this fine

Yeah!
Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free

Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free!

Yeah!
Hey! Hey!
Whoo!
Ooh!
Oooooaaahh!

Whoo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo
Whoo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo

Use any of the Amazon display ads on the right-hand side of the lyrics boxes above to buy the song “The Golden Age“, the album “Fruit“, or the “Sonic Arts” EP — all products of “The Asteroids Galaxy Tour“.

Bill Platt

p.s. Is it just me? Or does “The Golden Age” seem somewhat reminiscent of “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” by “Los Del Rio” from 1996?

I don’t know… Maybe I am just a little off my rocker
